1,034 Sydney service businesses can be found on Google — but not booked

We scanned the Google listings of mobile mechanics and home-service businesses across greater Sydney. Over a thousand of them can be found in a search, yet a customer who taps through has no working way to book. Here's what their Website button actually points to.

In a July 2026 scan of 1,034 Google Business Profiles for mobile mechanics and home-service businesses across greater Sydney, BookDone found that 84.5% had no website link on their Google listing at all — leaving a customer who wants to book with nowhere to go. Another 12.7% linked only to a social page, and 2.8% to a dead or placeholder page.

Where the "Website" button goes

For all 1,034 businesses, someone can find them on Google Maps — but when a ready customer taps the Website button to book, here's where they land:

Nothing — no website link at all84.5%
874 businesses. The button simply isn't there, so there's nowhere to book.
A social page only (Facebook, Instagram, Linktree)12.7%
131 businesses. A customer lands on a feed they can't book from, and moves on.
A dead or placeholder page2.8%
29 businesses. The link exists but leads to a retired builder page or a dead end.

By trade

Mobile mechanics were the most likely to have no website link at all; home and mobile services (dog grooming, cleaning and similar) were more likely to lean on a social page.

Around a third of the businesses in the scan were mobile or service-area operators with no shopfront at all — the very businesses for whom the Google listing is the storefront, and for whom a dead Website button is the whole shopfront closed.

Why this matters

Being found isn't the hard part for these businesses — they already show up when someone searches their trade nearby. The gap is what happens next. A customer ready to book taps through, hits a dead end, and books the next business on the list. The owner never hears about the job they lost.

The fix isn't a website. It's making the listing itself lead somewhere a customer can book. If you want to see whether your own listing has this gap, our free Google listing check tells you in seconds — and the guide on fixing a dead Website link walks through it.

How we measured this

  • What: Google Business Profiles for two trade groups — mobile mechanics, and home & mobile services (dog grooming, cleaning and similar) — read from public listing data via the Google Places API.
  • Where & when: greater Sydney, July 2026.
  • What we counted: the 1,034 listings where a customer has no working way to book — no website link, a link to a social page only, or a dead/placeholder page. The percentages are the make-up of that flagged set.
  • What this is not: a rate across every business in these trades. We report the count of flagged listings and what their links pointed to — measured directly, not estimated.
